Microcystis in Southwest Michigan - Residents on some southwest Michigan lakes have noticed unusual blooms of a yellowish-green "scum" on the water surface during some summers. This "scum" is a type of blue-green algae called microcystis. Learn more about this nuisance and its potential effects. A .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) version of this fact sheet is also available.

Sustainable Agriculture

Cover crops - Cover crops offer farmers many benefits, including wind and water erosion control, and pest and nutrient management.  This page features a set of information sheets about various cover crop species and management practices for Michigan farms.  It also includes summaries of current KBS cover crop research projects, both at the station and on farm.

Forage systems - This site offers information about forage species and grazing systems.  There are also links to upcoming events, research results and contact names.
