Hilo-area residents are being advised not to eat wild honey through the month of January, as the state will be using an insecticide to eradicate the varroa mite, a serious pest of honey bees.
Hawai`i imports approximately 85% of food consumed in the state. HDOA and other collaborating institutions are working to help increase the state's self-sufficiency.
