campus activities office

Here at Colby-Sawyer College, we strongly believe that learning occurs both in and outside of the classroom. The mission of the Campus Activities Office is: to create a social and cultural ambiance on campus in which student-focused, multidisciplinary education can flourish seamlessly both inside and outside the classroom. Central to its responsibilities are the organization, planning, and scheduling of cultural and social events, the coordination of clubs and organizations, the training and education of participants in these activities, and the dissemination of information across the campus pertaining to such opportunities. The CAO works collaboratively with students to provide diverse experiences with the intent of helping each member of the community to appreciate the world through the broadest possible range of perspectives.

Students are encouraged to be involved in extracurricular activities. There are a variety of campus clubs, groups, and organizations for students to be involved with. The Clubs and Organizations page gives a quick overview of what is currently active. If you are interested in something that is not addressed by existing clubs, groups or organizations then you may start your own. Just stop by the Campus Activities Office for more details concerning starting a club.

The Director of Campus Activities, Sharon Williamson, facilitates the activities of these campus groups as well as traditional events such as Family Weekend and Mountain Day. The Director of Campus Activities also is involved with the Cultural Events Committee, Leadership Program, Room Reservations, Web Event Calendar, and, along with the Programming Coordinator for Campus Activities, manages the Lethbridge Lodge.

Lethbridge Lodge was opened in October of 1988 with some special touches in its construction. The post and beam infrastructure was actually transplanted here from one of the college's first buildings. As a result, this student gathering place has a heart that goes back 150 years!

The Cultural Events Committee is a group of faculty, staff, and students who have come together to develop some interesting ways to enrich the cultural life on campus, and to better link our curriculum with our co-curriculum. The committee sponsors a wide range of events that include musical performances, public lectures, academic speakers, and fine and performing arts.
