To facilitate transactions between buyer and seller, the Oregon Shipping Point Inspection Program provides producers, buyers, sellers and handlers of Oregon commodities with competent and highly skilled staff for the certification of their product.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture has a permanent staff of approximately 75 graders, inspectors, samplers and support staff with as many as 80 additional seasonal employees during peak periods. Inspectors are licensed by USDA-Agricultural Marketing Service, Fresh Products Branch through a cooperative agreement. Our inspectors are experts in evaluating product under customer standards, state grades, federal grades , laws, policies and industrial practices thereby providing assurance that products meet or exceed all requirements of domestic and international markets. These services are available in both traditional "online" and alternative inspection programs . Inspection services are funded through user fees set by recommendations of an advisory board comprised of industry members.

Movement in the market-place
When fresh products are exported, an inspection and phytosanitary certificate is usually required. Within our own agency and cooperatively with USDA-Animal Plant Health Inspection Service, we have the ability to inspect and certify that fresh products are free from pests or diseases that would otherwise prohibit movement into a foreign country. The products we inspect include fruits, vegetables and tree nuts.
Third party grading
Produce is often purchased directly from producers on a contractual basis with grade, size, maturity, and other quality stipulations defined in the contract. We can provide unbiased official sampling, grading, and certification, giving confidence of fairness and equity to each party's interest.
Locations
Inspection services are offered throughout the State of Oregon with offices in seven locations throughout the State.
