Director Koch writes:
It is with tremendous pleasure and honor that I accepted the appointment to Director of the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Governor has asked me to provide aggressive leadership over DFG as we continue our important role as stewards of California’s fish and wildlife resources.
I have been fortunate enough to spend more than 30 years working with California’s diverse fish and wildlife resources. I know from working in numerous staff and regional positions that it’s an extraordinary role each DFG employee plays in protecting, preserving, and managing the vast resources within the state.
I have been impressed and heartened by the deep commitment of Gov. Schwarzenegger and Resources Secretary Michael Chrisman and their staff to the mission of the Department. To accomplish the aggressive mission ahead, it is essential that we build and maintain relationships with stakeholders and like minded associations in the state.
At DFG, we have the immense task of providing for the protection and use of very diverse resources in a state occupied by nearly 37 million people. More importantly, we have the responsibility to be active and productive participants in crafting durable solutions for the countless challenges facing the public’s resources held in our trust. I am honored the Governor put that trust in my hands.
