International market development
International markets represent an important part of the market mix for Oregon agriculture. Some sectors of Oregon agriculture rely almost entirely on export markets. For other sectors, export markets represent a proven way to diversify their mix of products and balance their customer base.

Export markets often offer unique opportunities for Oregon producers. Our strategic location on the Pacific Rim and efficient port and airfreight services facilitate export sales. The ADMD opens and develops export markets for Oregon producers. We are recognized for our expertise in Pacific Rim markets.

Our export development program creates market access for Oregon agricultural products through a range of services. In and outbound trade missions, trade shows, technical seminars and trade servicing are all part of an active tool kit that can get Oregon products noticed and placed in export markets.

We maintain close working relationships at the federal level with the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). Regionally we are members of the Western US Agricultural Trade Association (WUSATA), which administrates the Market Access Program (MAP) grant program funded by the USDA. This program provides important program development funding for both generic and branded agricultural promotions in export markets. Within Oregon we work closely with the International Trade Division (ITD) of the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department to coordinate statewide export development and investment initiatives. In this roll we work with the ITD to plan and conduct Governor´s trade development missions in key Oregon export markets.
