Wetlands

Wetlands and pondare exceedingly diverse around KBS as a result of the hummocky glacial topography and humid climate.

Several current research projects at KBS seek to document and understand the ecological variability of ponds and wetlands. The KBS Experimental Pond Facility provides infrastructure for replicated experiments using artificial ponds or mesocosms and is used by many researchers in combination with field studies.

The Lux Arbor Reserve has more than 25 distinct water bodies that range from shallow lakes to woodland ponds, and is ideal for field experiments. Other kinds of local wetlands include peat bogs, marshes, riparian fens, and riverine floodplains.

Contact Steve Hamilton for more information on local wetlands.
