Amendments to this directive will be dated and distributed as outlined in the distribution list below.
Pear trellis rust is a pest of Juniperus species and Pyrus species plants. In North America it has been known to occur in parts of south coastal British Columbia (BC) and California since the early 1960's. In 1961 regulatory controls were placed on the South Coast Region of BC to mitigate the spread of the disease. Although the quarantine is no longer in place, the movement of pear trellis rust host material from infested areas of BC continues to be regulated.
This directive is intended for the use of the CFIA inspection staff and commercial growers and outlines the necessary domestic movement requirements for hosts of the pear trellis rust including: species of Pyrus, Pyronia, Juniperus and one species of Cupressus.
Definitions for terms used in the present document can be found in the Plant Health Glossary of Terms.
This directive supersedes Quarantine Directive Domestic -3, dated 07/01/1986 and D-97-01 (Original).
