Restoring South Florida's Native Plant Heritage

Restoring South Florida 's Native Plant Heritage is based on intensive scientific research conducted over a period of more than 10 years.  In 2002, we completed our first major publication - Rare Plants of South Florida : Their History, Conservation, and Restoration - which provides land managers with the information they need to protect and restore the rare plant diversity of South Florida.

This critically acclaimed manual is currently out of print, but much of the book is now available on this website. The first five chapters of the book are available by clicking the links below.

Much of the actual data from which this document was prepared can be accessed by clicking on " FISF Database Online" on the left hand column. You must register to use this site. Please remember that physical access to all conservation areas in South Florida is controlled, and that permits must be obtained before any research can be initiated. Federal, state, and local laws expressly forbid the collecting of plants or plant specimens in conservation areas without a permit. Sample species accounts contained in Chapter 4, The Extinct, Extirpated, and Historical Plants of South Florida, and Chapter 5, The Critically Imperiled Plants of South Florida, can be accessed through the “Plants of South Florida” page.
