If you’re interested in local history, nature, the environment or enjoy helping others learn, you are invited to become a volunteer at Michigan State University’s W. K. Kellogg Biological Station (KBS). KBS and W. K. Kellogg Experimental Forest facilities are located near Hickory Corners and Augusta, Mich.

The MSU Kellogg Biological Station Volunteer Program began in September 1988 with a primary goal to increase community involvement through outreach and education. Since that time, volunteers have made it possible for us to increase our ability to greet KBS visitors through guided tours, public programs, field days and open houses. We make every effort to offer volunteers diverse opportunities at the W.K. Kellogg Forest, Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Kellogg Farm, Kellogg Manor, and Brook Lodge depending on their interests.

Several volunteer training sessions are scheduled during April and May. They will focus on training tour guides for the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Kellogg Farm, Kellogg Forest, and Kellogg Manor House. After attending training, new guides are invited to follow experienced guides on a few tours before going out on their own. New guides begin leading groups when they are comfortable with the information.

Additional KBS volunteer opportunities can be found on our web site. Opportunities include maple sugaring, landscaping/gardening, providing bookstore and clerical assistance, and helping with weekend programs.

KBS volunteers are asked to commit to one or two half-days per month.
