A Message from our Ag Commissioner
Welcome to
the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. I'm Commissioner Roger
Johnson. Agriculture is North Dakota's number-one industry. It's
why we've adopted the mission of being the trusted provider of
the highest quality food in the world. North Dakota farmers and
ranchers produce enough beef to make 2 billion hamburgers, enough
wheat for 108 billion sandwiches, and enough durum wheat for 93
pound of pasta for every American. Agriculture in North Dakota
is a $3 billion a year industry. Along with ag related businesses,
agriculture makes up 37% of our state's economy.
The staff
of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture is dedicated to
ensuring a safe food supply. We help producers with important
decisions concerning chemical use and disposal, animal health
and finding markets for their products. In addition, we help farmers
overcome financial difficulties through our agricultural mediation
service. While U.S.D.A. and Congress carve farm policy, we analyze
policy issues and work to influence public policy in ways that
benefit North Dakota.
We invite
you to take a look around the Web site and see what we have to
offer. We've worked hard to produce a Web site that you will use
as your one-stop agriculture information center - ag weather,
farm markets, news releases and links to other useful agricultural
Web sites. From potatoes and sugar beets in the east to the wheat
fields and ranches of the west, North Dakota was built by our
family farmers and ranchers.
