GreenBridge

GreenBridge, the community horticulture program of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, is designed to share the knowledge and resources of BBG with the neighborhoods of the borough. Working with block associations, community gardens, community centers, and other groups, GreenBridge promotes conservation and community through gardening activities.

A major emphasis of GreenBridge since its inception has been composting. Through our Brooklyn Compost Project, which is supported by the New York City Department of Sanitation, we provide technical assistance and resources for community gardens and institutions, as well as information on composting in your own backyard. Our City Kids Classes & Events workbook and training for adult leaders in community gardens engage city children and teens in the pleasures of gardening.

GreenBridge works with neighborhood and community groups who are starting new gardening projects or continuing existing programs. We offer free workshops and provide free plants, trees, bulbs, compost, and thousands of seeds—over 12,000 seed packets last year! In May, at our annual Tulip Bulb Recycling Give-away, the 10,000 bulbs that had bloomed at BBG throughout April and early May are donated to registered GreenBridge community gardeners.
