Community at Work

Community at Work is a weekly radio program on KRFC, 88.9 FM, that provides insight into issues that affect our communities by providing a closer look at the public agencies serving you.

This ½ hour show, Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm, is hosted by Larimer County, City of Fort Collins, the Health District of Northern Larimer County, and the US Forest Service on a rotating basis. Larimer County's show is hosted by Community Information Manager Deni La Rue.

Each week, the host of Community at Work will interview guests about a topic that is relevant to our communities.

Past and Future Larimer County Shows

• December 4 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Carla Felts, Foster Care Services Program Supervisor for Larimer County's Department of Human Services about the need for foster and adoptive homes for teens in Larimer County. • November 6 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Budget Director Bob Keister and Larimer County Manager Frank Lancaster about the County’s proposed 2009 budget. Issues covered include: criteria used in preparing the budget; what's in the proposed 2009 budget; prioritizing needs and resources; the public input process; and, looking to the future. • September 4 - My guest on this edition of Community at Work is Larimer County Environmental Educator Rose Watson from our Solid Waste Department. We talk about changes and updates in recycling; how to have a Green Halloween; what kinds of questions does Rose often get asked; and, we take your calls and answer your questions on recycling. • August 7 - On this edition of Community at Work, Larimer County's Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Criminal Justice Planning Manager Gary Darling and Emily Dawson Petersen of the Larimer Center for Mental Health on a potential ballot issue for this fall that would provide for a detox facility, treatment programs and more, for Larimer County citizens. • July 3 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks with Alison Stoven, Larimer County/CSU Extension Horticultural Agent, and Nancy Hunter, a citizen volunteer Master Food Safety Advisor with Larimer County Extension. • June 5 - On this edition of Community at Work, Deni La Rue talks Kori Wilford with the Larimer County Department of Health & Environment. Kori is a Health Educator and she talks with Deni about how to be an 'Askable Parent'. Live call-in is highly encouraged on this show. • May 1 - On this edition of Community at Work Larimer County's Community Information Manager Deni La Rue talks with Janet Montera (Office on Aging Advisory Board) and Earl Stevens (Office on Aging Advisory Board). They both volunteer on LarimerCounty's Boards and Commissions. We'll hear why they do and what kinds of activities their respective Boards are involved with. Listen to the MP3 recording
• March 27 - On this edition of Community at Work, Larimer County's Community Information Manager Deni La Rue talk s with Larimer County/CSU Extension Horticultural Agent Alison Stoven about the upcoming Farmer's Markets. The Extensions' Farmer's Market is moving to another downtown Fort Collins location this year. We'll talk about when it opens, what it'll have, and more. • March 6 - On this edition of Community at Work, Larimer County's Community Information Manager Deni La Rue talk s with Larimer County Criminal Justice Planning Manager Gary Darling about efforts underway in the criminal justice system in Larimer County. Topics include: treatment programs for those with substance abuse and mental health issues and the partnership that is addressing this topic; new programs that create efficiencies; addressing recidivism - people returning to jail, and more. • November 29 - Deni La Rue talks with Larimer County Commissioner Randy Eubanks who hit the ground running just over 4 months ago. He has already had to consider some tough issues. We'll ask him about those topics as well as the 'whys' and 'hows' of becoming Larimer County's newest Commissioner.
