Volunteer Programs

Volunteers add greatly to the effectiveness of Extension Programs. OSU Family and Community Development programs are expanded and enriched by volunteers working directly with Extension professionals and aligned volunteer service organizations to deliver educational programming.

Volunteers are supported through OSU Family and Community Development in three areas:

Family Food Education Volunteers

Volunteers support Extension foods and nutrition programming in several counties. The Family Food Education volunteer program is an enhancement of a similar program initiated in 1980. Family Food Education volunteers have been trained to teach Oregonians about safe food handling and storage. Training modules on food security (such as use of emergency foods) and nutrition (such as food labeling) are being added to the curriculum.

Family Community Education Programs

Oregon Association for Family and Community Education is an independent non-profit organization whose history and mission is closely aligned with the OSU Family and Community Development Program. We work collaboratively to develop and deliver community education and service projects addressing important community needs.

Leadership Education Program

Volunteer and Faculty developed training materials to strengthen group leadership skills and abilities.
