The Alaska Natural Heritage Program accepts requests from all government agencies, corporations, universities, private businesses, non-profit businesses, and private individuals.
Types of Information
Typically, the following types of information are provided for vegetation communities and Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive (TES) plants and animals:
- Lists of TES plants and animals occurring within a geographical area specified by the requestor.
- Literature searches on TES plants, animals, and vegetation communities.
- Biological information on TES species (i.e. habitat and range).
- Status and rankings for Federal, State, and The Nature Conservancy TES species in Alaska.
The Alaska Natural Heritage Program maintains the following datasets
- Plant taxa that are Rare and Endemic
- Invasive Nonnative Vascular Plant Species
- Mammals of Conservation Concern
- Birds of Conservation Concern
- Fish of Conservation Concern
- Amphibians of Conservation Concern
- The following datasets are in development:
- Plant Associations of Alaska
- Ecosystems of Conservation Concern
Fees
At this time, AKNHP, does not charge for requests of the types listed above. Large time consuming requests may, however, require a negotiated contract.
Submitting a Request
When requesting data please be specific about the information desired. Please provide at least the following information.
- Contact Person.
- Title.
- Organization.
- Project Name.
- Mailing Address (plus: Phone, Fax, and Email).
- Type of Information you are requesting (be specific).
- Location -Include a map (preferably a USGS 1:63,000 scale) or a good description of the location with township and range, nearby landmarks and the USGS quad name.
- How the information will be used (i.e. EIS, management plan, etc).
