June Grass Koeleria macrantha Grass Family (Poaceae) Habitat/Range: Common in dry upland prairies and open upland savannas throughout the tallgrass region, becoming a dominant grass in some northern prairies. |

Low, bunching grasses up to 2 feet tall, with most of the leaves at the base. The leaves are less than 1/8 of an inch wide and up to 1 foot long. Flowers are a pale green and form a narrow, cylindrical spike at the top of the stem.
