Welcome to Rhode Island's online marine license renewal service.

A Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit card is required to complete your transaction online.

Due to the restructuring of marine licenses by the General Assembly in 2003, you will only be able to renew certain licenses and endorsements held in the immediate preceding year via the Internet. All other license types may be renewed in person at the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management or by mail.

Please be advised that the license year runs from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2009 with the renewal window period running from January 1, 2009 through Midnight on February 28th, 2009 (for CFL, PEL, MPURP, STUDSF and SFO65 license holders). Failure to renew your license by February 28th, 2009 will result in an additional $200.00 late fee for licenses that are renewed from March 1st, 2009 through April 29th, 2009. Please note that deadline dates and renewal grace periods do not extend the validity of expired licenses. It is unlawful to fish in 2009 without a valid 2009 license.

All licenses being renewed via the Internet must be completed on or before April 29, 2009. A temporary license identification number will be issued at the completion of your online renewal process. The temporary identification will allow you to engage in the marine fisheries for your license type and endorsement. You must carry your temporary identification with you while engaged in the Rhode Island marine fisheries. Please allow two weeks for processing and mailng of your marine license.

Please note that a convenience fee will be assessed for each license renewal transaction. If you have questions, please contact the RI DEM Office of Boat Registration & Licensing between 8:30 am and 4 pm (EST) Monday through Friday at (401) 222-6647.
