Aquatic Nuisance Species: How To Help

Please report sightings of nuisance species immediately to Rob Billerbeck (Phone 303-866-3202 ext 4341), at the Parks Stewardship Program.

Everyone can help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species:

  • Empty the live wells on boats before exiting a body of water.
  • Always enter a body of water with an empty live well.
  • When swimming, fishing or water-skiing; always remove all visible mud and plant material from all gear, including people, pets, boats, fishing gear, waders, skis, personal watercrafts, etc.
  • Be sure to clean the treads in the bottom of waders or boots being careful to remove all visible mud and live material.

Learn about specific cleaning protocols for Eurasian watermilfoil and New Zealand Mudsnail.

We ask all aquarium hobbyists, pond owners, water gardeners and others, please don't dump undesirable aquarium or water garden plants, animals or fish into natural waters.  Discard undesirable aquarium or water garden species safely and away from our natural environment.  For more information and viable options, please visit the consumer awareness program at Habitattitude.
