Learning Among Friends

My Colby-Sawyer Experience

“I know these students very well, and they know me…You know when and how to push them. I think that's what Colby-Sawyer does particularly well—helps students reach beyond where they've been to discover their own potential.” - Communication Studies Professor Donna Berghorn

Mission Statement

We are dedicated to supporting health and well being, preventing illness, and engaging students in active learning and responsible decision-making.

The Baird Health and Counseling Center is licensed by the state of New Hampshire as an Educational Health Facility. Our staff includes nurse practitioners, licensed counselors and a collaborating physician.

We believe all students are holistic beings with independent physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. We also believe that students have the right and responsibility to educate themselves about available health information in order to make informed choices. We make referrals to outside resources when appropriate, and all information is kept CONFIDENTIAL except in the event a student is a danger to self or others.

Services for Students

Services available through the Baird Health Center include treatment of acute and chronic health problems, consultation on reproductive health and wellness, physicals and well woman exams, laboratory studies, immunization updates, allergy injections, individual and group counseling, stress reduction training, nutritional counseling, as well as support for relationship problems, anger management, anxiety and depression, disordered eating, alcohol and other addictions. Referrals to radiology and other health care professionals are made as needed.

While most services are provided at no cost to the student, we do charge for physicals nd well woman exams, certain laboratory tests, allergy injections, immunizations, and long term counseling (beyond five sessions for the same issue).
