Boating Safety

Water sports are a great way to have fun in the sun, whether you take to the water in your power boat, sailboat, canoe or just jump in for a swim. But whether you're swimming or boating, it's important to use common sense. The Colorado Boating Safety Program promotes safe vessel operation while enhancing boating experiences.

Before heading out on the water, be sure to:

• Check your equipment
• Wear the proper life vest
• Attend a Boating Safely in Colorado course
• Get a safety inspection on your vessel
• Review navigation techniques

To attend a boating safety course, review the Boating Safely in Colorado manual, which is available by sending an e-mail to boating.safety@state.co.us. Please include your name, address, contact phone number, and the number of manuals needed.

You are then required to attend a review session. The review session is your opportunity to review the material you studied out of the manual with an instructor and to take the test.  You must be 14 years or older at the time of the review session to take the test.  The 2009 Boating Safety Review Session schedule is not complete.  Please check back here in March for a list of dates & times to attend.

This course is required for people 14 or 15 years old to operate a boat in Colorado, but it is extremely valuable information regardless of age or experience level!

To register your boat, complete the Boat Registration Form and return it to the Registration Office at 13787 S. Highway 85 Littleton, CO 80125.
