The Statewide Planning Program is charged with preparing and maintaining plans for the physical, economic, and social development of the state; encouraging their implementation; and coordinating the actions of state, local and federal agencies and private individuals within the framework of the state's development goals and policies. The basic charge is established by Sections 42-11-10 and 12 of the General Laws. |

Local Government Assistance maintains a data center of information relating to cities and towns in Rhode Island. Specifically the office prepares an Annual Directory of City and Town Officials, a Municipal Finance Handbook, Selected Salary Surverys, A Handbook of City and Town Clerks, and a compilation of all Home Rule Charters in Rhode Island. Periodic reports are also prepared on such subjects as Local Licenses and Permits, Probate Courts and Fire Districts. The office also reviews all legislative introductions and prepares a Municipal Memo listing all legislation dealing with cities and towns. |
