Adaptive Recreation Programs

"Founded in 1970, the National Sports Center for the Disabled (Winter Park) mission is to positively impact the lives of people with any physical or mental challenge through quality adaptive recreation programs in over 20 sports. The Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes is Saturday, October 25, 2008. This 5K Walk and Fun Run starts at 9:00 a.m. for check-in and starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Downtown Aquarium. The Platte River and Cherry Creek trails will be filled with walkers who are dedicated to curing diabetes. With the majesty of the mountains to the west and the Denver skyline to the east, it is sure to be a scenic way to get in shape and raise money for the mission of the American Diabetes Association. Get out with Cairn! Get unplugged with Cairn, a year-round environmental service program for high schoolers. Join up for monthly challenges and outdoor adventure. The Sand Creek Fall Classic Mountain Bicycle Race will be held Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Cheyenne Mountain State Park from 9:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. This is the final race in the Colorado mountain bike race season and is organized by Sand Creek Sports, Inc. The event is sponsored by Ascent Cycling, Carmichael Training Systems, Front Range Orthopaedics, Rocky Mountain Lasers and About the Shot Photography. "Colorado Discover Ability (CDA) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote increased independence and self-worth through outdoor recreation for individuals with disabilities, as well as for their families and friends. For more than 20 years, CDA programs have been serving the disabled in the Grand Valley...in southwest Colorado and in eastern Utah." CDA offers year-round recreational programs.
