About Resource Stewardship

Resource Stewardship is devoted to assisting park staff with biological sustainability, threatened and endangered species compliance, forest fuel mitigation, noxious weeds, aquatic nuisance species, revegetation/restoration, raptor monitoring and GIS mapping.  

Rob Billerbeck is the Section Manager and has a Master's Degree in Conservation Biology.   Elizabeth Brown is the Parks Resource Stewardship Coordinator and has expertise in noxious weeds, aquatic nuisance species and restoration/revegetation.  Matt Schulz is the Forest Management Coordinator and has an expertise in fuels mitigation and GIS.  Brian Kurzel is the Natural Areas Coordinator and has expertise in forestry and rare plants.  Typically, we also have a few highly qualified seasonals and contractors to do biological, geological, GIS and GPS (field mapping) work.  

The primary responsibility of the Resource Stewardship Section is to produce Stewardship Plans for each park.  In addition to Stewardship Plans, our main focus areas include:

• Noxious Weeds
• Rare Plants
• Restoration/Revegetation
• Threatened and Endangered Species Compliance
• Volunteer Raptor Monitoring Program

Our team actively works closely with park staff and specialists to maintain the ecological integrity of our parks now and for future generations, while still providing the best possible recreational experience for park visitors.
