new student orientation

Mark your calendars. The New Student Orientation is Friday, September 4, 2009, to Monday, September 7, 2009. The New Student Orientation is your formal introduction to the college community. Orientation is designed to help you discover the new opportunities available to you at Colby-Sawyer College and around the New London area.

Upon your arrival on campus on Friday, September 4th, we have arranged for orientation leaders to greet you and your family. These students have been trained in a variety of areas to be resources for you. They will guide you through the check-in process and provide you with any help you may need through the course of the weekend.

Faculty, staff and students have designed an exciting introduction to college for you. Orientation is a fun way to get to know the college and settle in before classes start on Tuesday. The Orientation Program gives you the opportunity to:

  • be formally welcomed into the community
  • receive individualized attention from faculty/staff advisors
  • get your fall class schedule
  • understand the academic expectation at Colby-Sawyer College
  • learn about ways to contribute to the college community
  • learn about the importance of a liberal arts education
  • make new friends

Making the transition to college life can be difficult for new students and their families. Thus, this weekend is required for all new students to help ease that transition. If you have any questions regarding the New Student Orientation, please feel free to contact the coordinator for orientation, Director of Campus Activities, Sharon Williamson at 603-526-3756 or swilliamson@colby-sawyer.edu.

In Your Honor

Colby-Sawyer College has designed an exciting first four days for you! Orientation is your formal introduction to the college community. During this time, you will meet faculty, staff, and students and begin to make life-long friends. You will learn about your community responsibilities, establish yourself in the intellectual life on campus, find out about people, places, and programs, and HAVE FUN AND PREPARE YOURSELF FOR AN ADVENTURE!

Orientation is action packed ~ addressing the challenge of stepping into the unknown. You will have time to unpack and catch your breath, but we also expect you to participate fully in this program.

Over the course of your college career, you will be asked to look at the big picture, but also see the small details. You will be encouraged to ask questions and will learn how to find answers. We begin this process during Orientation, as we introduce the college as a whole, but also talk about particular issues you will encounter. We will answer your questions and challenge you with new ones. And of course, you will begin to discover where to find answers for yourself!

Fear not, student Orientation Leaders will be there to guide you and your group in this adventure. The whole college community is committed to contributing to your education and Colby-Sawyer experience.

Welcome
