FOREST MANAGEMENT
The Forestry Commission's professional foresters assist South Carolina citizens with the management and development of the forest resources of the state. They assist landowners in growing more timber, aid industries in more efficient utilization of the timber resource, and foster conservation and multiple use of the forest resource.
Environmental Management
Protecting other resources while conducting forest management activities is what good stewardship is all about. Federal and state laws require that water quality and endangered species be protected. Best Management Practices (BMPs) are designed to minimize the impact of forestry practices and related activities on water quality and other functions and values. Recommendations by Commission foresters will assist and encourage landowners to comply with these voluntary and non-voluntary regulations so that these resources are protected.
Stewardship Management Assistance
South Carolina's Forest Stewardship program is designed to assist private landowners who want to do the most they can for future generations: become forest stewards. Any landowner who owns at least ten acres of forestland can qualify.
Urban and Community Forestry
Urban Foresters with the South Carolina Forestry Commission are available to assist communities, non-profit volunteer organizations, schools, individuals and others with information, training and technical assistance related to the establishment and management of trees in urban areas of South Carolina.
