Wood Collection Policy

Visitors to the Collection: Researchers may consult the Wood Collection, but if they visit they should note that it is housed separately from the U.S. National Herbarium. The Wood Collection and card files are kept in the Museum Support Center in Suitland, Maryland, while the microscope slides and herbarium specimens that support the Wood Collection are in the National Museum of Natural History, Washington, D.C. With advance notice, material in the Museum Support Center can be brought to the museum building on the Mall.

Loan Policies:   The wood collections are available for scientific observation by all qualified visitors. Requestors of loans must be aware of our general loan regulations. Researchers are required to provide a labeled microslide in exchange for each sectioning cube sent. These slides must be labeled with the USw number taken from the block.
