We value the experiences you will bring and the contributions you will make to our academic community should you attend this special, outstanding liberal arts and sciences college. We want to do everything possible to help you decide if Colby-Sawyer is right for you, and we are happy to answer questions about every aspect of the Colby-Sawyer experience.

International students are eligible to apply for need-based financial aid and scholarships, making Colby-Sawyer a viable option for your studies. If you haven't already, take a look at our academic programs, which range from pre-Med and pre-Law to Art, Communication Studies, Environmental Studies and more.

Applying

We are here to help make your dream of attending Colby-Sawyer a reality. To complete your application and be considered for admission, you must send us your:

  • Colby-Sawyer Online or Paper Application, or Common Application Online or Paper Application. (Our $45 application fee is waived if you apply online) Apply Here

  • High School Transcript

  • Teacher or College Counselor Recommendation. The person who writes this recommendation should have a strong sense of your academic abilities.

  • Essay: Your one-page essay may be written on a topic of your choice, or may also be a graded paper from a class with professor notes included.

  • Official Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores if English is your second language. A minimum TOEFL of 500/173 is required for admission. If you take the SATs or ACTs, we have no preference as to which scores you submit. (Note: We require official scores from the testing company or else verified by your high school as valid.)

  • Certification of Finances. Colby-Sawyer requires you to submit a statement of finances with your application so that we can commence the required Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status,or I-20 form upon your acceptance.

Financial Aid and Tuition


International Students are eligible for need-based financial aid, and are encouraged to apply. At Colby-Sawyer we strive to acknowledge the abilities and accomplishments of our students. Through a variety of scholarships and awards, the college recognizes academic achievement, community service and leadership experience.

Application for Financial Aid

Academic Merit Scholarship

These awards acknowledge students who have reached a high level of academic achievement throughout their high school career. There is neither a separate application nor a deadline for this award. As part of our rolling admissions process, students will be informed of the award decision at the point of acceptance. For international students, the admissions committee will recalculate your GPA based on equivalent letter and number grades from the Official High School Transcript you submit.

Wesson Honors Scholarship - up to $60,000 over four years

Students with a 3.5 GPA are eligible for the Wesson Honors Scholarship. This $15,000 scholarship includes direct admission into the Wesson Honors Program. It is renewable annually for four years of study dependent upon good academic standing in the Wesson Honors Program.

Presidential Scholarship - up to $48,000 over four years

Students with a 3.3 GPA are eligible to apply to the Presidential Scholarship Program. This $12,000 award is renewable annually for four years of study dependent upon full-time enrollment and good academic standing.

Chargers Scholarship - up to $40,000 over four years

Colby-Sawyer recognizes students whose high school academic coursework shows them to be promising collegiate scholars. Students who have a minimum 3.0 GPA are eligible for this award. The value of this scholarship is $10,000 and is renewable annually for four years dependent upon full-time enrollment and good academic standing

Merit Based Awards

Colby-Sawyer offers merit based scholarships to incoming students based on their high school academic record, leadership qualities and community service involvement. These awards are not based on need and are renewable each year as long as the student remains in good academic standing. The Office of Admission will send merit applications to all eligible students at the point of acceptance.

Colby-Sawyer Grant

Grant assistance is given to students based on their financial need, as well as their academic performance. Students receiving grant assistance from the college may expect to receive similar grant awards each year as long as family circumstances do not change, all application deadlines are met, and the student remains in good social and academic standing.
 

International Student Resources


Choosing to study in another country is a big decision, and we applaud your sense of adventure, desire to learn, and adaptability. Even before you arrive on campus, all of Colby-Sawyer's resources are available to you to help make the transition as smooth as possible.

For the 2007-08 academic year, Colby-Sawyer has students enrolled from Brazil, Canada, China, Cote D'Ivoire, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Nepal, Rwanda, Spain and Turkey. We hope to welcome you soon, and when you get here, a wide array of organizations and offerings will help you fit right in.

On Campus Resources

International students at Colby-Sawyer have a number of resources at their fingertips. Our English Language and American Culture (ELAC) program is designed to support international students on campus and includes English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses for credit, international student advising, and the Cross-Cultural Club.
