Responding to Human Needs in the Workplace and in Product Design

The Institute for Ergonomics at Ohio State University is dedicated to ensuring safe and effective designs of work environments and consumer products. This is accomplished by determining both the physical and cognitive capabilities and limitations of people, and understanding how one's performance is affected by using different tools, work practices, and support technologies.

An Interdisciplinary Approach to Ergonomics

co-op learning

The Institute continues a long tradition of human factors research and industry partnerships at Ohio State, with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach to system design. To achieve this, the Institute draws upon the extensive experience of faculty, staff, and students from a variety of disciplines, including industrial and systems engineering, computer and information science, communication, industrial design, psychology, statistics, education, physiology, biomedical engineering, public health, and medicine.

This interdisciplinary approach is applied to the Institute's activities, which focus on Education and Research to students, as well as Consulting Services for companies and organizations.
