Who We Are

Our Vision

The Land Trust Alliance believes that if we focus our combined efforts to increase the pace, quality and permanence of conservation, we can turn the tide and ultimately change the way that land development takes place in America.

We can have faith that in every part of this land children will be able to see the stars, climb the trees and experience a personal connection to a cherished place.

We can hold the expectation that our children’s grandchildren will purchase food grown in their region as easily as food grown around the world. We can know that future generations will be able to swim in a river, drink from the tap, and run in their neighborhood without worrying about the safety of the water.

Our Mission

To save the places people love by strengthening land conservation across America.

To fulfill our mission, the Land Trust Alliance has worked for more than 25 years with the national land conservation community - comprised of million dedicated land conservation professionals, volunteers and supporters - to quickly, effectively and permanently save our most valued natural places across America.

In the next two decades, together with our members and partners, the Alliance will:

  • develop new and better tools and information as well as raise resources to support permanent conservation of critical natural areas

  • build public awareness of the public benefits of conserved land, including clean air, clean water, local food, scenic views and recreation areas

  • make land conservation a high priority for policy makers, community leaders and landowners

  • promote legal strategies and support systems to help land trusts successfully defend against threats to now-conserved land
