Transportation: Getting to Boston

Travel Update: The United Airlines discount is no longer available. However, American Airlines is still offering a discount to AAG attendees. Please see below for details.

BY TRAIN

Take the train to Boston! Amtrak has frequent train service to Boston from New York and other points in the Northeast Corridor. The trip from New York takes about 3 1/2 hours on Acela Express trains, about 4 hours on other trains.

Amtrak is offering a special convention discount of 10% off the lowest available fare to AAG attendees. You must book your reservation over the phone at 1-800-872-7245 or contact your local travel agent to receive this special rate (convention rates cannot be booked via Internet).  Make sure you refer to Convention Fare Code X11Q-921 when making your reservation. This offer is not valid on the Auto Train. Fare is valid on Amtrak Regional and Acela service for all departures seven days a week, except for holiday blackouts. BY CAR

If you are driving, there are three main routes into Boston:

  • I-90 (Massachusetts Turnpike) from the west
  • I-95 from the north and south
  • I-93 from the north and south

BY AIRPLANE

Boston's Logan International Airport (BOS) is New England's gateway to the world and the nation's 19th busiest airport.  Airlines such as Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, America West, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Jet Blue Airways, Midwest, Northwest/KLM, United, and US Airways offer low fares and great schedules. Manchester • Boston Regional Airport (MHT) in New Hampshire is a convenient alternative to Logan International Airport. Strategically situated in the heart of New England, MHT is located less than fifty miles north of Boston and is serviced by Air Canada, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, COMAIR, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways.

T.F. Green Airport (PVD) is called the "Hassle Free Gateway to New England" for good reason - convenient Interstate location in Warwick, Rhode Island, and nearby proximity to Boston, Cape Cod, Newport and Rhode Island's capital city, Providence, makes it a snap getting to New England. T.F. Green offers travelers a wide assortment of airlines including Air Canada, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.

There will be a separate ticketing charge of $10.00 USD for tickets purchase via the phone, however there is no ticketing fee for reservations made and ticketed on www.aa.com. The percentage discount can be booked on-line at www.aa.com for American Airlines and American Eagle flights only. GROUND TRANSPORTATION

From Boston’s Logan International Airport

Airport information booths are located on the arrivals and baggage claim levels of each terminal. Computerized kiosks with information on ground transportation and rental cars are available 24 hours a day. Visit www.massport.com for additional information.

Subway: The subway and bus routes serving Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) are operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (better known as the MBTA or the "T") which include: Silver Line Rapid Transit Bus Service (direct connection to and from BOS and South Station on the MBTA Red Line via the Waterfront) and Airport Station Subway service (take the MBTA Blue Line to and from the newly renovated Airport Station and board free Massport shuttle buses to all airline terminals and the water transport dock for; the Blue Line is your best connection to and from the MBTA Orange and Green Lines at Government Center Station).

To reach the conference hotels, take the free Massport shuttle to the MBTA Airport Station - Blue Line Inbound, then take the Blue Line - Wonderland Station to Government Center Station and switch to the Green - E Line - Heath Street to Copley Station. A one-way fare from the airport to the hotels is approximately $2. To reach the Westin or Marriott from the Copley Station, take Dartmouth Avenue one block south – the Westin is on the Southwest corner; turn right on Huntington Ave, the Marriott is two blocks down on the left.  To reach the Sheraton from the Copley Station, go west on Boylston Street for 4.5 blocks and turn left on Dalton Street, the hotel is one block down on the left. Taxi:   Taxis are located outside of each terminal on the arrival level and are available 24 hours a day.  All fares leaving Logan Airport are charged a $2.25 airport fee. Travel through the harbor tunnels will cost an additional $4.50 toll fee. Metered taxi service to the conference hotels is approximately $21. For wheelchair accessible vehicles or further assistance, see a Massport Ground Transportation agent, located outside of each terminal on the arrival level.
 
Shuttle: Star Shuttle offers shared van service between Boston Logan International Airport and the conference hotels for $14 per person one way. Service operates seven days a week, every 20 minutes starting at 5:30 a.m. till 2:00 a.m. Call 1-877-970-STAR (7827) or visit www.starshuttleboston.com to make reservations.

From Manchester • Boston Regional Airport

The airport information booth and hotel courtesy board are located on the first floor of the terminal. Metered taxi service to the conference hotels is approximately $100. The Manchester Shuttle is a regularly scheduled bus service offered free of charge for Manchester • Boston Regional Airport's ticketed airline passengers.  All passengers must show an airline ticket, boarding pass or printed travel itinerary in to or out of Manchester to be eligible to use this free service. The busses depart from the outer curb adjacent to the main entrance walkway of the terminal.  This high frequency bus service operates every two hours; 24-hours a day; seven days a week (including holidays) between the airport and the Sullivan Square MBTA Subway Station (then take the Orange Line to the Back Bay Station). Visit www.flymanchester.com and click on Manchester Shuttle for more information. 

From T.F. Green Airport

There are many options available for ground transportation at T. F. Green Airport. Most of the providers provide transportation service to downtown Providence, which only takes about fifteen minutes. The taxi and bus area is located on the lower concourse of the terminal, just outside the baggage claim area. Car rental agencies also have counters in this area of the terminal.
