Security for Los Alamos
and the nation

Supporting the National Security Mission

The National Security Office (NSO) supports the Laboratory Director and the LANL national security mission by providing program and policy analysis and advice; developing institutional papers, studies, workshops and conferences; and enabling informed decisions about the strategic direction of our national security programs.

In its work, NSO is part office and part network. Working with the national security program directorates, the office monitors the national security environment, engages relevant organizations, such as NNSA and DoD offices, as well as appropriate academic and NGO communities.

Serving the Laboratory

NSO also serves the following functions:

  • Coordinates Change of Station (COS) and Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) process for placing staff in external assignments to support the Laboratory’s mission
  • Oversees the Director’s Classified Colloquium program
  • Coordinates and produces institutional papers, studies, workshops and conferences
