Getting to Las Vegas

There are several options you might consider when looking for transportation to Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2009 AAG Annual Meeting. Las Vegas is easily accessible by air, car, rail, or bus and this year the AAG is pleased to offer discounts from United Airlines, Amtrak, and Hertz Car Rental to assist you in getting there!

By Train or Bus

Take the train or bus to Las Vegas! Amtrak offers a variety of options to get to Las Vegas via train and/or bus from points around the States. Travel through the heart of the west on the Southwest Chief to Kingman, Arizona, less than four hours by bus to Las Vegas. Or venture across the plains of the Midwest on the Zephyr to Salt Lake City, less than seven hours by bus to Las Vegas.

Amtrak is offering a special convention discount of 10% off the lowest available rail fare to Las Vegas, Nevada, to AAG attendees from March 19-30, 2009. You must book your reservation over the phone at 1-800-872-7245 or contact your local travel agent to receive this special rate (convention rates cannot be booked via Internet).  Make sure you refer to Convention Fare Code X78T-943 when making your reservation. This offer is not valid on the Auto Train and Acela service. Fare is valid on Amtrak Regional departures seven days a week, except for holiday blackouts. Offer valid with Sleepers, Business Class or First Class seats with payment of the full applicable accommodation charges. Visit www.amtrak.com for additional information.

By Car

If you are driving, there are four main routes into Las Vegas, Nevada:

  • I-15 from California
  • US-95 or US-93 from Nevada and the northwest
  • I-15 from Utah and points north/northeast
  • I-40 and US-93 from Arizona and points southeast

Rental Car: This year Hertz Car Rental is pleased to offer convention discounts to AAG attendees on rental cars in Las Vegas! To reserve your special meeting rates, please provide the discount convention number CV#049W0001 when making your reservation. Call Hertz directly at 1-800-654-2240 in the U.S. and Canada (1-405-749-4434 elsewhere) or make your reservation online at www.hertz.com.  At the time of reservation, the meeting rates will be automatically compared to other Hertz rates and you’ll be quoted the best comparable rate available. By Airplane

Traveling to Las Vegas from anywhere in the world is easy! McCarran International Airport (LAS) offers hundreds of accessible and economical flights each day from domestic and international destinations, including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Currently, more than 34 airlines including Air Canada, American Airlines, bmi, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Jet Blue Airways, Northwest Airlines, Southwest, United, US Airways, Virgin America and Virgin Atlantic offer 1,100 daily scheduled flights and low fares. McCarran is conveniently located just 4.5 miles from the convention hotel. Taxicabs, for-hire limousines, and shuttle services are all readily available at McCarran.

United Airlines is offering discounts for the AAG 2009 Annual Meeting.  Call United Airlines’ MeetingsPlus Reservation Center at 1-800-521-4041 for reservations, schedule and ticketing information. Make sure you refer to Meeting ID Code 586FJ and you will receive a 2% - 5% discount off the lowest applicable discount fare when ticketed at least seven (7) days prior to departure. An additional 5% discount will apply when tickets are purchased at least 30 days in advance of your travel date. A two (2) night minimum stay is required. Reservation agents are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (ET).

NEW THIS YEAR: purchase your ticket online at www.united.com and receive a 5% discount off the lowest applicable fares. After you click on www.united.com, enter your origin, destination, and travel dates. Click on “more search options” and enter the following “promotion code: 586FJ (code is case sensitive so please use capital letters). There are no fees for booking on line at www.united.com when you use the special promotion code.  

Ground Transportation

At McCarran International Airport

Staffed information booths are located between the north and south baggage claim areas in Terminal 1 and in the baggage claim area and customs greeter lobby in Terminal 2. McCarran's free Wi-Fi service gives travelers with Wi-Fi-enabled computers and PDAs unlimited high-speed access to the Internet 24/7 from virtually any public area of the airport. Taxi: Taxicabs are available on the east side of baggage claim, outside door exits 1-4.  Airport personnel are available on the taxi curb to assist passengers. Please note: most taxis will not accept credit card payments. There is a $1.20 charge on all fares originating at the airport. The maximum number of passengers allowed in any taxi is five (5), including infants and children. Metered taxi service to the conference hotels is approximately $15. Shuttle: A variety of shuttle/limousine services is available at McCarran, and is located on the west side of baggage claim, outside door exits 7-13. Please note that there are both group shuttle and "for-hire" stretch limousine services. Click here for additional information.
 
Public Transportation: The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) operates the Citizens Area Transit (CAT) bus system, the Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) line, and the Deuce double-deck bus service (on the famous Las Vegas Strip). Rental Car: The new McCarran Rent-A-Car Center offers centralized car rental and return services for all major car rental companies, include Hertz Car Rental, where you will receive a special meeting discount rate. Dedicated shuttles depart approximately every five minutes to the center, and are available from baggage claim, outside door exits 10 or 11. Click here for additional information.
