Deer and Turkey

Wildlife of the Grant-Platte Basin

The Grant-Platte Basin provides habitat for a fairly diverse wildlife community. Deer, grassland birds, upland game birds, and others are hunted in the basin. Many non-game species exist, with some thriving. DNR wildlife specialists, with Fish and Wildlife Service, NRCS and county LCD staff, work with willing landowners to assist them in developing, maintaining, and improving habitat. In addition, the Federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP), and Wetland Reserve Program (WRP) have all helped to improve wildlife habitat on private property.
