The Save Our Seed Project is dedicated to facilitating a Certified Organic seed growing and distribution network in the Southeast so our growers will never need to purchase seeds from outside of our region again. We believe that for seeds to perform well here in the Southeast, they must be selected in the Southeast. Success of this project will mark a boon for local Certified Organic consumers, growers, and seed producers.

Through a federal USDA SARE grant, the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association has initiated the Save Our Seed Project, a program designed to train southeast farmers and extension agents in the production of organic and heirloom seed. The primary objective of the project is to increase the availability of regionally produced and adapted certified organic, open pollinated seed.

We are asking Certified Organic growers in the Southeast to complete this survey to help us identify what organic seeds you are not adequately finding. We will tally the results and spend 2005 focusing on the three crops that folks identify as primary needs.

We did a similar survey last year and identified beans, tomatoes, and cover crops as the three primary needs last year. We will be focusing on raising these three crops again this year as well.
