Studies genetics of domestic cat. Developing genetic tools to assist gene mapping in cat and other companion animals. Working on comparative genome maps for cat, dog and horse and developing new resources for studying rhesus macaque genome.

Studying genetic mutations that cause diseases in dogs and horses. Identified cause for lethal "white foal syndrome" in horses. Working to identify gene that causes excess uric acid in Dalmatians. Interested in development of molecular diagnostic tests for inherited diseases.

Genetically engineered a vaccine for the devastating cattle disease Rinderpest. Working to develop a vaccine for AIDS using recombinant DNA technology.
