UC Davis experts: Mountain lion attacks

This UC Davis expert is available to discuss issues related to mountain lion attacks.

Mountain lion biology and behavior

Walter Boyce, director of the UC Davis Wildlife Health Center, leads a long-term research project in Southern California studying interactions between mountain lions and people. He can discuss the behavior of mountain lions in rural and urban areas. Based in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park in Southern California, the study is a joint project between UC Davis and the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the California Department of Fish and Game, and the Zoological Society of San Diego. Boyce can discuss a new study that provides unprecedented detail about how lions behave when they are near people -- and how frequent those close encounters really are. Boyce also can discuss a second new study that surveyed people in urban and rural areas on their attitudes about mountain lions and public safety.
