Web site privacy statement

Your privacy is very important to us. Our policy is to collect no personal information about you when you visit the DNR Web site, unless you choose to make such information available to us.

If you choose to share personal information, for example by subscribing to an e-mail list, submitting comments, e-mailing the DNR, or filling out an electronic form with personal information, the information will only be used for the purposes you authorized. Information will not be disclosed to third parties unless required by state or federal law.

If you donate online to a DNR program, for example Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine, or purchase a DNR license online, your credit card number and expiration date are not public data. The other data you supply becomes a public record when you submit the donation or make a purchase. On occasion, this data is used for mailing lists to notify you of continuing opportunities, employment recruitment, research, select product offerings, and charitable contributions. You either will have the option to not be included on these mailing lists or you can contact the DNR Information Center at (651) 296-6157 or (888) MINNDNR (646-6367) to request your name be removed from the lists.

The site does use "cookies" (data stored on the computer you use, which can later be retrieved by our Web server). When you access the DNR Web site, two types of cookies are used. Session cookies track activity on the site and make sure you are getting the right content; these cookies disappear when you close your browser. Other cookies store the preferences you set for Current conditions weather information (i.e., for which city you want to check weather). The cookies do not store any personal data about you.

Our commitment to data security

We have appropriate security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of information that we have collected from you so you can feel comfortable and secure when making an online transaction.

The DNR Web site uses Secure Sockets Layering (SSL) to encrypt your personal credit information, including your credit card number, before it travels over the Internet. SSL technology is the industry standard for secure online transactions. Because we use SSL, donating or making a purchase online via the DNR Web site is just as safe as giving your credit card number over the phone.
