Detroit Preview: 2010 Prius to debut January 12, 2009 at 11:30am EST
Filed under: Hybrid, Toyota, Detroit Auto Show
Not everyone is bailing out of the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Toyota will be there in force with its all new third (fourth according to Toyota) generation Prius as well as the new Lexus HS250h. We haven't seen the full press conference schedule yet, but Toyota just sent out a note to let us know that its big show will take place on Monday Jan. 12, 2009 at 11:30 am to reveal the new Prius. The updated hybrid synergy drive is expected to yield both better performance and mileage. It will be interesting to see what the hybrid pioneers come up with in the way of driver information displays, to counter Ford's SmartGauge and Honda's EcoAssist on the new Insight. The Insight will be making its debut the day before the Prius and we'll have full coverage along with driving impressions of that one. Stay tuned, for we live in very interesting times.

I wish the interior was updated to look similar to a Camry or even Lexus. The Hondo Interior is much better IMHO. I do like the updated front end though.

Wow this car is even more beautiful than its predecessor. I bet they did this intentionally so they don't have to produce to many of these.

My wish is for flexfuel. There are currently many possibilities for alcohol based renewable fuels. My favorite, butanol. I want a gas saver, but NOT one that is stuck on the dead end gas track.

Yet another reason not to buy a car for another 2 years. Once they have these things out on the road everything for sale now is gonna look like a dinosaur.

Mike G., the 2010 Prius goes on sale this Spring, so it's much less than 2 years before it will be available.

NEEDS for the new Prius:
1. Adjustable lumbar support. (Seats in it aren't nearly as comfy as the Camry - I own both cars).
2. Stronger electric engine - something that I can accelerate a little better with without using the gas engine.
3. Higher top speed of electric engine. Currently 40ish mph .. I would like a 53ish range..that would let you drive 99% of the city driving on electric alone.
4. Computer to mimic a ScanguageII setup. Trip MPG, daily MPG etc..
I'm sure Toyota took care of this and many more things that I never even thought of..
