Detailed Forecast Discussion |
A large and strong ridge of high pressure is inhibiting penetration of pacific fronts into Washington State and stabilizing the lower atmosphere. A persistent surface inversion has be slow to become entrenched over most of western Washington but that is now occurring and will remain in place into next week. This inversion will trap pollution and air quality is expect to dramatically decline beginning early Thursday. There is a significant potential for air quality levels to exceed the federal 24 hour PM 2.5 standard on Friday in Snohomish and Pierce counties. This is expected to prompt the issuance of stage 1 bans On Thursday. Stage 2 bans are expected on Friday for Snohomish, Pierce and King counties. Kitsap county will likely be included over the weekend but could be included sooner depending on monitored pollutions levels. Current meteorological model guidance shows no relief to the stagnant pattern before until late Monday /Early Tuesday next week. |
