FEDMAP Projects
In FY 2007, the NCGMP is partially or completely funding 32 FEDMAP projects that conduct geologic mapping or mapping support in 38 states, Canada, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Information about these projects is provided in two forms:
Participating USGS Teams
Most of the geologic mapping projects are conducted out of the three regional Earth Surface Processes Teams, but the Program also funds geologic mapping tasks and laboratory support in projects from other USGS Teams:
Uses of FEDMAP Geologic Maps
In recent years, FEDMAP efforts have focused primarily on geologic maps that are needed to address water resources, landside and earthquake hazards, and ecosystem issues. Other less widely applied uses of these maps are for aggregate, mineral and energy resources; climate changes; and karst, flooding, and volcanic hazards. These uses for FEDMAP-funded geologic mapping in 2005 are depicted in the chart below:
