Field Study Trip Workshops for Spring 2009!
Featuring the Wildflower Center’s celebrated
Exploring the Native Plant World curriculum


Join the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center for our acclaimed workshop, providing you with the skills and materials necessary to engage your students in a life changing field study experience. Our training will help you to prepare for your field trip, provide you with educational materials on-site to enhance your visit, and help you reinforce lessons when you return to the classroom.

Educators who complete the workshop have priority reservation status, may schedule Field Study Trips (FST) to the Wildflower Center at a reduced rate, and have access to onsite teaching materials.

Registration

Registration Fee: $60 per person per day. Includes two activity guides (covering 4 grade levels) and other materials. Advance registration required. Classes are held select Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PreK - K: Shapes and Patterns in the Native Plant World
Pass around a drawstring bag with secret shapes inside, go on a scavenger hunt to find
the shapes in the natural world, design flowers using geometric shapes, make a nature
map, create a repeating timeline, and compare fruit and seed patterns.


Grades 1- 2: Changes in the Native Plant World
Conduct a class full of flowers swaying to Vivaldi's Spring, peek between paper petals,
watch a cavern form in minutes, play the Bluebonnet Game, and discover the part luck
plays in growing flowers.

Grades 3 - 4: Survival in the Native Plant World
Students "become" chloroplasts constructing food chains from available ingredients,
research what's up between native plants and their good buddies, make connections
between a novel

Grades 5 - 6: Adaptations in the Native Plant World
Create a complete water cycle inside the classroom, research plant community stages,
learn botany by compass, map plant habitats along the Wildflower Center's nature trails,
and compare plant coping methods in harsh environments.
