Conference Topics

ACES 2008 is organized around four primary themes: 

  • Mapping and Spatial Relationships

  • Values and Measurement

  • Dynamic Systems and Drivers of Change

  • Institutional Structures and Decision Making

The focus of the discussion within each of these themes will be on improving the understanding, communication, and application of information about ecosystem services within the scientific, resource management and urban development communities. 

The following are preliminary topics to be addressed within each theme during the conference:

  • Mapping and Spatial Relationships: Spatial Relationships / Analysis, Landscape Dynamics, Distribution of Benefits, Remote Sensing, Data Management / Coordination, and Scale / Units of Assessment

  • Values and Measurement: Economic, Ecological, Cultural, and Indicators and Monitoring

  • Drivers of Change: Urbanization / Population Growth, Climate Change, Natural Hazards, Invasive Species, Non Urban Land-Use, and Resource Management

  • Decision Making: Tools and Models, Institutions, Communities and Stakeholders, and Barriers
