Authorities are searching for a man who robbed a bank in Thayer County on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., a man walked into the Citizen State Bank in Carleton, approached the counter and demanded money from the teller, said Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins.

The man indicated he had a weapon but did not show one, Collins said. He was given an undisclosed amount of money, which he put in a black and red trapper-style binder.

The man fled the bank in a very dirty, maroon, mid-2000 two-door Pontiac Grand Am with a spoiler on the trunk, Collins said. The car was seen heading north out of Carleton to Nebraska 4.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s, 5-foot-11 and 220 pounds, with brown hair, a fat nose and fat fingers, Collins said. At the time of the robbery he was wearing baggy blue jeans, a flannel shirt with a blue T-shirt underneath and a dark brown heavy winter coat. He also had a maroon stocking cap covering his head and neck, and he wore large-rimmed sunglasses.

No one was injured during the robbery, Collins said. Anyone who may have seen the suspect or car or who might have information about this crime is asked to call the Thayer County Sheriff’s office at (402) 768-6139 or Statewide Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-1494.

" I am not surpried that they did not catch this guy. Worth noting that there are no police within 20 mile radius. This person could have been nearly to Kansas by the time police arrived to Carleton. Hope they catch them so that these types of criminals dont get it in there minds that these little towns in hopes that they can get away easily. "

" I am not surprised either, although this story at least received some media coverage. There were 3 robberies in North Central NE in less than 2 days early this week and there was absolutely NO media coverage and the NE State Patrol didn't even bother to put out a bulletin on their web-site with a description of the get away vehicle. Very disappointing. "
