Pest Management Analysis and Planning Program

Back to Programs and Services

The Pest Management Analysis and Planning (PMAP) program, along with the other programs at DPR, assesses impacts and prevents potential problems resulting from pesticide use. PMAP specifically focuses on solutions that incorporate integrated pest management (IPM). PMAP provides:

DPR’s IPM Innovator awards honor California organizations that emphasize pest prevention, favor least-toxic pest control, and share their successful strategies with others.

DPR has also funded grants and alliances that form a step-wise progression from applied research and demonstration projects to regional or statewide implementation of multi-disciplinary reduced-risk pest management practices.

In the Almond Pest Management Outreach Project, (PDF, 13 kb) DPR staff work with the almond industry to encourage implementation of alternative pest management practices in almond production.

As part of DPR’s Environmental Justice air monitoring pilot project in Parlier, Fresno County, PMAP conducted a Pest Management Assessment (PDF, 977 kb) to identify environmentally friendly pest management practices and avenues for research, outreach, and partnerships which can help DPR assist producers who would like to try improved technologies and practices.

Pest management assessments of commodities, including alternatives to the use of methyl bromide, and pesticide use trends analyses provide an overview of pesticide use in California and a discussion of trends of pesticide use.

School IPM for buildings and grounds.

Continuing education for licensees.

The Pest Management Advisory Committee advises the Department on a wide range of regulatory issues.

PMAP has the lead to carry out DPR’s Pest Management Strategy.
