Chief Administrative Law Judge of the Coast Guard

The Honorable Joseph N. Ingolia

Coast Guard Administrative Law Judges conduct hearings and render decisions under the Administrative Procedure Act in proceedings where the USCG seeks to suspend or revoke Coast Guard-issued Licenses, Certificates or Documents of mariners.  Administrative Law Judges also preside in enforcement proceedings seeking the assessment of Class II Civil Penalties involving alleged violations of environmental statutes.

All decisions issued by the Administrative Law Judges are subject to review by the Commandant. An Administrative Law Judge's initial decision, which is a disposition of all of the issues in a proceeding, becomes the final order of the USCG within 30 days after service upon the parties unless a party appeals to the Commandant.
