Science Inquiry Partnerships
The Cornell Science Inquiry Partnerships (CSIP) builds partnerships between
Cornell graduate students and secondary teachers with the goal of enhancing
inquiry learning and updating science and engineering content taught in rural
and urban schools. Fellows work with partner teachers to design inquiry-based
activities that will meet the needs of each participating class. From 2000
- 2003, this program was known as the Cornell Environmental Inquiry Research
Partnerships (CEIRP).
- Garden
Mosaics
Garden Mosaics is a science education and community action program
for youth ages 10-18. The activities take place in urban community gardens, as
well as in home and school gardens. Youth in Garden Mosaics learn from elder gardeners
about plants and planting practices.

Composting
Produced by the Cornell Waste Management Institute, this website
provides ideas for student research and information about how to compost in the
classroom or outside. The Science and Engineering section contains detailed information
about the biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering of composting. Also included
are lesson plans and safety considerations, a compost quiz, and tales of weird
and unusual composting.
- Long-Term
Ecological Research: Teacher's Manual
The activities in this manual introduce
high school students to the National Science Foundation's Long Term Ecological
Research (LTER) program and the variety of research being conducted at LTER sites.
The activities also are designed to teach basic ecological principles and inquiry
skills, and to make students aware of the value of long-term research as a basis
for conservation management and regional planning decisions. Twenty-four LTER
sites are located in different biomes across the US and the Antarctic, and many
international sites are found throughout the world.
