The FDA has revoked the order prohibiting the extra-label use of cephalosporin antimicrobial drugs in food-producing animals. The agency took this action on November 25th 2008 so that it may fully consider the many substantive comments it received on the order of prohibition. AVMA hails gains in farm bill: badly needed funding for FARAD authorized, animal fighting law strenthened (JAVMA, 2008; 233:10 - Nolen)

Congress handed President Bush the second veto override of his presidency May 22 when it mustered the votes to pass the $307 billion farm bill. Apart from the political wrangling and clerical gaffe surrounding the controversial reauthorization legislation, the AVMA had cause to applaud some veterinary-related provisions within it.
