Spencer Award

Each year the Leopold Center recognizes a farmer, educator or researcher who has made a significant contribution to sustainable agriculture and the future of Iowa's family farms. Check this page for more information about one of the state's largest awards in sustainable agriculture.

The Water Cycle

This educational tool was developed during the 1997 Year of Water, which marked the 10th anniversary of the Iowa Groundwater Protection Act that established the Leopold Center. The Water Cycle is an animated program that explains each stage of the water cycle process. Check this page to download the free software.
 

Biological Control Curriculum

The Leopold Center funded development of this vocational agriculture curriculum for use in Iowa high schools and community colleges. Lessons look at biological control of insects and weeds, also riparian buffers, local food systems, and alternative horticultural practices to control weeds and improve soil quality.Check this page for lesson plans and other instructional resources.
 

Iowa Produce Market Potential Calculator

This is an on-line tool designed to help users determine markets that could be created in Iowa if consumers ate more locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables rather than produce from conventional sources outside the state. The calculator has production and consumption data on 37 fruit and vegetables currently grown in the state.
