Abstract:
In a four year lasting experiment with cucumber growing in a black peat-pine bark-sawdust 1:2:1 bv. media, two regeneration methods have been employed: 1/ periodic dressing with hen droppings 2/ subsequent growing in summer/autumn of another vegetable, in 1978 and 1979 pole bean, in 1980 and 1981 sweet pepper.
The phytotoxicity level in the substrate was controlled by means of a biotest.
It was found that sweet pepper lowered phytotoxicity most effectively.
None of the other treatments were effective.
The use of hen droppings caused a hot fermentation, which favoured the accumulation of phytotoxic substances in substrate.
