BACKGROUND
Buy Fresh Buy Local is a project of the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) implemented in 2002 and continues to expand throughout the state of California. The goals of the campaign are to educate and inspire the public about the importance of preserving local agriculture, to increase membership in CAFF and to increase the economic viability of family farmers (more info at www.buylocalca.org). The Central Coast Project Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director to increase the visibility of and participation in CAFF’s Central Coast Buy Fresh Buy Local campaign – a five county region. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Engage the public and stakeholders in our Local Food System

  • Convene grower direct marketing workshop in San Benito County;
  • Track attendance;
  • Garner new listings for the Food Guide;
  • Increase membership in CAFF via the campaign;
  • Provide events and content for monthly e-newsletter;
  • Coordinate interns and volunteers.

Represent CAFF at meetings and other networking events

  • Participate in conferences and outreach events as approved by Program Director;

Conduct campaign evaluation and reporting

  • Evaluate the impact of the campaign via partner surveying;
  • Keep information current on www.buylocalca.org;
  • Provide information for grants and reporting.

Administration

  • Process new members;
  • Coordinate the production of print materials;
  • Communicate with administrative support staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of local agriculture and related organizations;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design or a related degree;
  • Minimum of two years work experience in campaign related activities;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing;
  • Knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Office, and InDesign;
  • Familiarity with internet based communications;
  • Excellent public speaking and networking skills;
  • Works well independently and as part of a team;
  • A creative eye for design and enthusiasm for the local food movement.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Spanish language competency;
  • Farm-related direct marketing or retail experience in the food sector.
